最近は、ミニバンの売れ行きに陰りが見えている。普及を開始してから15年以上が経過して、目新しさも薄れた。多人数乗車や荷物の積載など、明確な目的があるユーザーしか購入しなくなったからだ。元気を失いつつあるミニバンだが、久々に大ヒットしそうな新型車が登場した。

2014年1月20日に発表された「トヨタ新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノア」だ。

新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアは床の位置を低く抑えて乗降性や居住性を向上させ、低重心化によって走行安定性も進化している。待望のハイブリッドも用意され、外観の変わり映えは乏しいものの、機能は大幅に刷新された。

このフルモデルチェンジを迎え撃つのが、ミニバンで売れ行きナンバーワンを誇る「日産セレナ」。登場したのは2010年だが、2013年末にマイナーチェンジを行い、衝突回避の支援機能などを装備した。

この2車種を軸にして、ミニバンが再び注目を集めそうだ。そこで新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアとセレナを徹底的に比べてみたい。

トヨタ新型ヴォクシー＆ノア

ヴォクシー＆ノアは、新型になって全長を100mm拡大して4,695mmになった（標準ボディ）。そのためにホイールベース（前輪と後輪の間隔）を含めてセレナとボディサイズはほぼ同じ。

最小回転半径は、新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアがグレードを問わず「5.5m」。セレナは15インチタイヤ装着車は「5.5m」だが、エアロパーツを備えたハイウェイスターの16インチ装着車は「5.7m」に拡大する。

取りまわし性はほぼ同じだが、エアロパーツ装着車については新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアが少し有利だ。

乗降性は圧倒的に新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアが勝る。新型は床を平均して85mmほど下げたからだ。カタログに掲載される床面地上高が360mmになるのは、スライドドア開口部の前端部分。

中央付近は380mmくらいだが、それでもフラットフロア構造のミニバンではかなり低い。そしてセレナの床の高さは先代ヴォクシー＆ノアと同等だから、新型に比べれば80mmほど高い。ステップワゴンも20mmほど高い。なので新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアの床面は、ライバル車の中では一番低いことになる。

新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアで乗り降りがしやすいと感じるのは、床が低いために路面から足が直接床面に届くことだ。セレナでは小さなサイドステップを介して乗降するが、新型ヴォクシー＆新型ノアであればその必要はない。
