次期オデッセイはステップワゴンとプラットフォームや足回りを共有する。全長および全幅は現行モデルと変わらず4800mm×1800mmに定められる。ただし高さは2代にわたってアピールポイントだった低全高から脱却。一気に150mmも高くなり1695mmに設定し直される。

それでもこの全高は1800mmを越えるアルファードやエルグランドだけでなく、同ジャンルではスタイリッシュな部類に入るエスティマより低い。そのボディサイズはマツダ MPVに近い縦横比となる。

全高アップにともなって室内高も100mmほど増え約1320mmをマークする。ヒップポイントは乗り降りしやすい高さに維持され頭上スペースに余裕が生まれる計算だ。前席よりも2列目、2列目よりも3列目の着座位置が高く設定されるシアターレイアウトによって見晴らしの良さも確保。また、3列目シートは反転して床下に収納できるなど多彩なシートアレンジも踏襲される。

エクステリアでは2013年6月にデビュー予定のアコード同様、薄型ヘッドランプとメッキバーが配され、フロントフェイスは迫力ある表情となる。リアドアはヒンジ式からスライド式に変更。ランプ端を起点にサイドウィンドウ下を走るプレスラインと、フロントドアからスライドドアのレールへと至るキャラクターラインにより、サイドビューも印象深いものとなる。

パワートレインは、ホンダ独自の「アース・ドリームス・テクノロジ−」に基づいて開発された新世代の2.4L直4エンジンとCVTとの組み合わせ。JC08モード燃費は14.2km/Lに達する見通しだ。また、スポーティなアブソルートには直噴ユニットが与えられ、競合車をしのぐ動力性能を実現する。さらにガソリン車発売の約3ヵ月後、つまり2013年内には2Lエンジン＋2モーターのハイブリッドもラインナップされるだろう。
